- 2 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter, chilled and cubed
- 2/3 cup shortening, cubed
- 1 cup cold water
- Add the dry ingredients to a mixing bowl and stir to combine.
- Add the cubes of butter and shortening and cut in, using a pastry blender or a butter knife and fork.
- The mixture should be crumbly. At that point, start adding the cold water, tablespoon by tablespoon, until it forms a dough. It should be sticky but not difficult to work with and not so wet that your hands are wet.

- I like to use the other end of a wooden spoon to mix my ingredients.
